A.C. Williams, Lion Tail Right, Cast Iron, Penny Bank, Circa 1905 - 1931
$75.00
This nice Lion Penny Bank was manufactured by the A.C. Williams company of Ravenna, Ohio, between 1905 - 1931, it is a large size, cast lion with its tail on the right side. An identification and rating of this bank can be found in Moore’s “The Penny Bank Book”, published in 2008, on page 97, listing number 754. It is given a "B" rating, indicating that it is becoming more scarce and good pieces are most likely found in the hands of antique dealers. The piece can also be found in A.C. Williams 1906 catalog on page 102, it is listed as item number 3448. In 2008 the value of this bank was estimated in the Penny Bank Book between $100 and $150. The bank is in good condition, with no cracks, or repairs, however I do not like the look of the paint. I believe that at some point in the past this bank was over painted and I have factored that into my pricing. The piece is approximately 61/2 inches long and 5 1/2 inches tall. Please refer to photos for full perspective.
The A. C. Williams Company was founded in Chagrin Falls, Ohio in 1844, by John Wesley Williams. John was the father of A. C. Williams. A fire at the Chagrin Falls location inspired a move to Ravenna, Ohio. Production in this location began in 1893 and continued through 1938.
