Acoma Pueblo, Fine Line, Black on White, Seed Pot, signed by the artist

$225.00
This wonderfully painted pot is signed by an artist who identifies herself as simply, Evon. I found internet references suggesting that this artist is a member of a recognized family of Acoma Pueblo artists, the Chino family. I cannot document that with absolute certainty, but the skill and genre of design speak for themselves in this beautiful piece.
The design elements on all pueblo pottery have spiritual significance. The thin finely painted parallel lines of Acoma pottery signify life giving rain. Animals and birds represent character traits such as, wisdom, boldness, cunning, strength, music, fertility, speed, and healing. Arrows usually refer to power and/ or direction, and circles signify the earth and/ or celestial bodies. This piece features all of these elements. It is in excellent condition, for its age, with no chip, cracks or repairs and the paint and design remain exquisite.

I would date this piece, based on patina and design to the 1950 - 1970 time period. It is approx. 3 1/2 inches wide and 3 1/2 inches tall. It has a flattened base that is approx. 1 1/2 inches in diameter. The circular opening is approx. 1 inch in diameter. I have called this a seed pot. The opening is wider than most seed pot opening, but it seems too small to me to consider it an olla. Please refer to photos for full perspective.

As always, thank you for stopping by the shop and for your interest in this piece. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions you might have.
