Beaded Moccasins, Santee Sioux, circa 1950's

$195.00
These interesting moccasins date from the 1950's. These moccasins were made and used by a member of the Santee Sioux Nation. They have been worn and exhibit wear associated with use. Please Note: These are not sold as footwear items that could or should be used, they are for display only. Constructed of split buffalo hide, they are hand stitched with cord, have a folded heal pattern with wear on sole as the hide was soft and not hardened. The bead work remains in good condition, featuring geometric patterns in colors of orange, sky blue, translucent dark blue, chalk white and medium red. Seams are done in a keyhole design. There is a section on the top of one moccasin where an area of cording is pulling loose. I have attempted to show all elements of these moccasins in the photo's including wear and evidence of the impact of age. Please refer to photos for full perspective.

The hide remains very soft, and these moccasins will not hold their shape more than what is shown in the photos. A shoe form would be useful for display to accent the beauty of the bead work. They are approx. 10 1/2 inches long and 4 inches wide at that widest point. The beaded panel on the top is approx. 3 3/4 inches long by 2 inches wide.

As always, thank you for stopping by the shop and for your interest in this piece. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions you might have.
