Black Powder, Priming Horn, Circa War of 1812,

$575.00

A description of this unique 210-year-old horn can be found in “The Powder Flask Book” by Ray Rilings, on page 215, # 105. The author identifies these horns as "British, late 18th Century." The body of the horn boasts a lovely patina, displaying only very minor pitting that one would expect in a piece of this remarkable age.

The end cap is elegantly turned and showcases a deep oil finish that enhances its historical charm. A mysterious substance has been noted on the very end; I have not attempted to clean it off, preserving the horn's originality. Overall, this horn remains in very good condition.

It measures approximately 7 inches in length, with a diameter of the end cap at about 1.5 inches. The brass spout extends around 2.5 inches and features intricate etching, adding to its unique character. A functional lever mechanism allows for the convenient dispensing of powder.

Please refer to the accompanying photos for a full perspective of this exquisite antique. Thank you for visiting our shop and for your interest in this remarkable piece. Should you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out.
