Butter Press/Print, Square, Box Style, Circa 1910-1920

$125.00
This interesting Box Style Butter Mold/Print was likely manufactured between 1910 and the 1920's. Factories began manufacturing butter molds during the last quarter of the 19th century, this continued into the 1920's. These types of molds are discussed in "Butter Prints and Molds", by Paul E. Kindig, starting on pg 79 and going through pg. 89.

This nice box mold is in good condition for its age and could be used if desired. The corners are dovetailed, and the sides of the box are secured with brass hooks that swing easily and hold the molds form securely. The boxes external measurements are: 6 inches long by 5 1/2 inches wide by 2 1/4 inches deep. The print is 5 1/8 inches long by 4 3/4 inches wide. The design is made up of two sets different stylized geometric patterns, framed by pairs of vertical and horizontal lines. I believe the wood is a honey oak and it has a lovely patina developed over time and from use. Please refer to photos for full perspective.
