Butter Print, Half Round, Chip Carved, Early 1800's, Mid Atlantic States Origin
$275.00
Collectors of Classic Antique Butter Prints take a look at this lovely piece.
Circa the early to mid 19th century; this piece is described in the reference book; "Butter Prints & Molds" by Kindig, on pgs. 61 - 63.
The author discusses specifics of half round prints. Based on the carving on the face and the handle I believe this is a hand carved piece. Sadly, at some point in its life, iron wood screws were used to perhaps "repair" it. The tips of those screws now extend into the face of this otherwise beautiful print. Rust from the screws has caused discoloration of the wood. I have priced this piece based on these losses. It remains a very nice example of this type of butter print. It is possible it could be restored, but I am selling it as found.
It is approx. 7 inches long, and at the widest point of the curve is approx. 3 1/2 inches wide. It stands approx. 6 inches tall. It remains a very nice representation piece and would be a nice addition for a butter print collection or accent piece of Farmhouse or Country Decor.
