Butter Print/Mold, Deeply Carved Pineapple Motif, Possible Bullard Co Mold

$95.00

Lovers of Antique Butter Prints and Molds, take a closer look at this intriguing piece. This may be a Bullard Company mold. A company renowned for their craftsmanship in the late 19th century. The deeply carved print bears a striking resemblance to those cataloged on page 182 of Paul E. Kindig's book "Butter Prints and Molds."

Bullard Molds are typically stamped with the company makers mark and this print is not stamped. Therefore, we cannot definitively authenticate its origin, though the style and construction are consistent with the Bullard brand. It is possible this could be a later production piece from their various iterations between 1864 and 1895.

Notably, there are marks on the handle and the print itself, implying tape was once applied—possibly to document information for collection purposes. For its age, the print remains in good condition. The handle can be unscrewed from the print; however, frequent unscrewing is discouraged as the wooden carved turnings of the screw show wear, impacting future reattachment.

Aside from the tape marks, the piece is free from significant blemishes or repairs. It is a substantial item, measuring approximately 7 ¾ inches in length with the handle extended. When detached, the handle measures about 5 ¾ inches, while the print itself boasts a diameter of approximately 3 5/8 inches and features a beautifully carved pineapple pattern. The top showcases a lovely lathe-turned design of concentric circles.
