Butter Print/Press, circa mid 1800's, Deeply Carved, Pineapple Motif

$65.00
Lovers of American Treen ware. Check out this beautiful Turned Wood, Butter Mold/Print, Circa mid to late 1800's.

The print plate in this piece features a wonderfully detailed Pineapple, framed by fronds/leaves suggesting that the pineapple is resting with the pineapple plant. The design is framed by two concentric turned lines around the circumference of the print plate. This classic motif is referenced in the book, "Butter Prints and Molds" by Paul Kindig on pg. 147.

The print plate is housed within a turned plunger type mold. The construction and over all condition of the bell is very good, HOWEVER, at some point in its life, someone tried to paint the outside of this mold with copper paint. When I got it, the outer surfaces of the bell and handle of the print were covered with green tarnish from this paint. I used fine furniture grade steel wool to remove most of the green tarnish. If someone wanted to take the time to strip and refinish the outer surfaces of the bell it could be returned to original condition. I am selling it in as is condition. If use of this piece is desired, none of the cosmetic discoloration of the bell was on the print face. The print plate fits securely within the bell and moves freely. It could be used if desired. This remains a beautiful piece of Americana and would accent any farmhouse decor or butter press collection. Please refer to photos for full perspective.

With the handle fully extended the press stands approx. 7 3/4 inches tall, with the handle pushed in it is approx. 6 inches tall. The outer circumference of the bell is approx. 4 7/8 inches, the diameter of the design plate is approx. 3 1/2 inches. For its age and use it remains in good condition.

As always, thank you for stopping by the shop. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions you might have.
