Candle Holder, Brass Push Up, Late 1700's-Early 1800's, Likely English Made
$65.00
Lovers of Antique home/table wares, take a look at this nice, Brass Push up style Candle Holder. The lifter still functions and if desired, this piece can be used or simply displayed.
The simple, understated elegance of this candleholder, is consistent with pieces seen in homes in Colonial America, from the late 1700's through the early 1800's. Brass pieces made in the US at that time were typically more crude, I suspect this candleholder was imported from France or England. The piece is in good condition for its age. I have not cleaned it and it retains wax residue, evidence of recent use. If desired, the shine of the brass would benefit from cleaning and polishing, I leave that choice to whomever choses this piece. The base is round and there is some deformity of the circumference, likely due to use over time. There are also some very small dents in the brass stick, consistent with age and use. The lift moves freely, there are no makers marks that I can find. The brass has a warm patina. This would be nice accent piece for a table or display area. Please review photos for full perspective.
The Candleholder stands approx. 7 1/2 inches tall, the base is approx. 3 1/2 inches in diameter, external diameter of the lip is approx. 1 7/8 inches, the candle opening is approx. 1 inch in diameter.
As always, thank you for stopping by the shop and for your interest in this piece. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions you might have.
