Ceremonial Peace Pipe, Hand Carved, Turtle Motif, Catlinite Bowl, Circa 1980's
$375.00
This beautiful Ceremonial Pipe features a hand carved, Catlinite Bowl. The bowl is approx. 3 inches in length. The stem is a beautifully stained, turned wood. Approx. 21 1/2 inches in length, accented with a split deer hide beaded drop where the bowl and stem join. The stem is firmly affixed to the bowl and is not removable. The bowl appears to have never been used. It takes a bit of effort, but the pipe draws and could possibly be used if this is desired. There are no chips, cracks or repairs. The carved turtle motif of the pipe itself is stunning.
The turtle is a sacred creature among Native American tribes. Each tribe’s cultural view of the turtle/tortoise, is slightly different; however, the deeper meaning remains the same: the turtle represents Unci Maka , Lakota for Grandmother Earth, who teaches us to walk our paths in peace. The perfect motif for a peace pipe.
Together, the pipe and stem are approx. 25 inches long. The bowl is approx. 2 1/2 inches tall from the base to the lip of the bowl. Internal diameter of the bowl is approx. 1 inch.
