Childs Sewing Machine, German Made, Late 1800's-Early 1900's

$215.00
These darling little toys were sold in the late 1800's through the early 1900's. The intent of the toy was to introduce young girls to sewing. This piece was made in Germany, document by a stamp on the sewing plate. I cannot find any other makers marks. Based on the design and paint motif, I believe this piece dates from the very early 1900's.

The crank turns easily and the foot raises and lowers. If a needle was inserted, it is possible this toy might still work. I have not tried that. The beautiful period design is still clear, there are a few scratches, some rust and wear appropriate for its age. If desired it could be cleaned up, I have chosen not to do that. The base is approx. 6 1/2 inches long, measured from the point on each foot, it is a approx. 3 1/2 inches wide. It stands approx. 7 inches tall from the base to the tip of the thread tower. The crank is approx. 2 3/4 inches in diameter. Please refer to photos for full perspective.

As always thank you for stopping by the shop and for your interest in this piece. Please do not hesitate to contact us with any questions you may have.
