Egg Scale, Circa 1930's, Stamped; National Poultry Equipment,

$80.00
Manufactured by the National Poultry Equipment Co. of Seattle, Washington, this nice old egg scale would be a wonderful addition to any collection of antique/vintage farm pieces. It would also be a nice Farmhouse or Country decor accent piece. Originally designed to grade chicken eggs, it has two lead flip-weights mounted on top of the scale. By flipping them back and forth, the weights provide a way to determine different sizes: small, medium, large, and extra-large. The metal base of the scale is embossed, Natl. Poultry Equipt. Co., Seattle Wash. On the arm of the scale is embossed, Pat. Des. 105970. On the circular egg cup is embossed, Magic Scale. It appears to be made of steel and there are two screw holes in the base, suggestive that at one time this was screwed onto a wooden base. The scale is approx. 9 inches long, approx. 3 inches wide at the widest point and approx. 2 1/8 inches tall from the base to the top of the egg cup. Please refer to photos for full perspective.

The National Poultry Equipment Co. of Seattle, Washington, founded in 1935. Ellis E. Powell of Seattle was issued a design patent in 1937. This little scale likely dates from the late 1930's.
