Embossed Leather Shot Flask with Owner's Initials, circa 1800's
$95.00
Collectors of Antique Black Powder Flasks, take a look at this wonderful piece.
This piece may date from the 1700's or early 1800's. It appears to be meticulously hand stitched and the pattern very skillfully hand punched and carved. The leather is crazed by the impact of time but remains solid as are the seams. The carved motif on one side is likely the original owners' initials, "T. H.". The other side looks to be a fern or plant representation. There is a much more recent but old cord attached to the carry loop on the spout/measure. The spout is large and the thumb mechanism still functions. I am unsure if this was intended as a shot pouch or powder flask. The spout is slightly loose but still sealed into the body of the flask.
The Flask measures approx. 9 5/8 inches long, the widest point of the body is approx. 3 3/4 inches wide. It is approx. 1 5/8 inches deep. The spout/measure is approx. 2 7/8 inches long and the external diameter is approx. 7/8 inch. The body of the flask is approx. 7 inches long. Please refer to photos for full perspective.
