George Washington, Peace Medal, Bronze circa 1800's

$125.00
Numismatics enthusiasts, take a look at this wonderful 1789 Washington Indian Peace Medal In Bronze.

This is a sharply detailed, original U.S. Mint made specimen that is struck in its largest size. Although dated 1789, this medal would have been struck sometime after 1846 using a new reverse die that replaced the worn original. This historic Indian Peace Medal clasped hands on the reverse, depicting “Peace and Friendship” between the American government and Native American people. The medals were often given to Chiefs following some event between the US Government and the Tribe, such as the signing of a "Peace Treaty". The color of this piece is a rich, even bronze color.

The medal is approx 3 inches in diameter and weighs almost 8 oz. I purchased the piece as part of the estate sale of a life time Civil War Collector from Upstate New York and my purchase price enables me to offer this a a much lower price point than other sites I found.
