Hubley, "Fido", Cast Iron Penny Bank, Circa 1920-1930,
$95.00
This nice Hubley Penny Bank is identified and rated in "The Penny Bank Book" by Andy and Susan Moore. It is number 417 on pg. 81 of their book published in 2008. In 2008 they place the value of this little bank between $80 and $150.
Hubley produced this bank between 1914 and 1946. Based on the aged patina of the paint I would date this bank to the 1920's. It retains approx. 90% of its original paint. There is a buildup of normal soiling and chipping of the paint that is appropriate for its age and use. Please carefully review photos for full perspective.
John Hubley founded Hubley Toys in 1894, in 1914 the company partnered with Grace Drayton to create wide eyed characters such as Fido, Puppo and Cutie. These characters were widely popular, and production continued into the 1940's.
This piece stands 5 inches tall, is approx. 3 3/16 inches wide and approx. 3 7/8 front to back. It would be a wonderful addition to any still bank collection.
