$595.00
This interesting piece was identifed as "Pre Civil War" in the description provided by the Estate Auction where I purchased it.

The construction is consistent with "second pattern", drum style water or other liquid carriers/canteens. The piece is unmarked, it is formed with wooden slats, forged iron hoops, mounts and two spouts. It as four iron feet and a hinged type handle that still moves freely. The drum face slightly ovoid in shape and is approx 11 inches tall and 10 3/4 inches wide. The width of the body is approx 5 1/4 inches wide. The entire carrier stands approx. 16 inches tall from the bottom of its 4 feet to the peak of the handle. There are two spouts on the top, one appears to be for pouring/filling the other as a vent. The pour/fill spout is approx 7/8 inch tall and is approx 1 inch in diameter. The vent spout is approx 1/2 inch tall and approx. 1/4 inch in diameter. This is a relatively heavy piece, weighing approx. 6 pounds. Please refer to photos for full perspective.

The hand forged banding, handle and spouts on this piece still retain hammer marks from the forge.
