This Kachina, identified on the base as "Wolf" was hand carved from Cotton Wood. It is signed on the base by a recognized Kachina artist, Largo. Whenever the Deer or Antelope Kachinas dance in the plaza, another Kachina is very frequently seen with them--the Wolf Kachina (Kweo). He is their side dancer, and the knife and pelt he holds in his hands are said to represent the game he captures. The Wolf Kachina is a master hunter using his great awareness and knowledge of the land to find and capture game, in this role he is highly respected and is showered with offerings in hopes that the people may channel his skills as a hunter.

This dancer stands approx. 12 inches tall; the base is approx. 3 inches in diameter. The widest span, from one hand to the other is approx. 5 inches. The body is painted grey and embellished with soft leather bands and fringe in a light cream color. The dancer wears a leather skirt painted in geometric patterns in black, cream, orange, turquoise and yellow. Black leggings and bright turquoise boots are painted on the legs. The wolfs ears are highly stylized and painted grey, red and black to accent great hearing, the eyes protrude signifying great eyesight, and the snout is detailed in black and grey with sharp white teeth. The dancer is in good condition. There is some evidence of paint wear over time. The right foot was broken at some point and has been repaired.
