Hopi "KACHIN MANA" (KACHINA MAIDEN) by Nadine Naha KACHIN MANA Artist: This Kachina was carved by recognized Hopi artist, Nadine NaHa. Nadine creates her Kachinas from the root of the cottonwood tree, this beautiful kachina stands approx. 4 3/4 inches tall. Diameter of the base is approx. 2 inches. The paint used is vibrant and crisp. The face is of a corn maiden, the robes are cut away revealing a pueblo. The hair is tied in the classic Tewa style of Hopi women and incised giving it texture and detail. This beautiful Kachina would be a great addition to any collection. In the book by Harold S. Cotton "Hopi Kachina Dolls", this kachina is described as featuring a Yellow Half Mask, Womans Dress, and Maiden's Shawl. This is the most common kachina maiden, she accompanies the Hemis Kachina as well as many others. The writer references authors Earl and Kennard circa 1938
