Leather Embossed Shot Pouch, American Cap and Flask, Mid 1800's

$175.00
Collectors of Antique Black Powder Flasks/ Shot pouches, take a look at this wonderful piece.

Stamped "American Flask and Cap", likely dating from the mid 1800's, the embossed artwork in the body of this beautiful flask is wonderful. The motif features a beautiful hunting dog walking beneath the branches of a tree, with grass and other foliage around its feet.
The image is framed by a circular floral pattern which produces an almost lace like impression. This motif extends in an arrow shape pointing to the brass measure. On the front of the pouch, within this triangle is stamped 3 lbs, indicating that the pouch was intended to carry up to 3 pounds of shot. The raised motif remains crisp and clear, the leather is flexible with no cracks or holes. The carry ring at the bottom is intact and secure. The seams on the body remain solid. The brass measure remains functional and is stamped AM Flask & Cap co. The measure has gradation marks of 1 and 1 1/4, it unscrews from the body of the pouch. The leather has a dark almost mahogany patina while the brass measure has the dark patina of aged metal.

The Flask measures approx. 8 1/2 inches long, the widest point of the body is approx. 3 1/2 inches wide. It is approx. 1 1/2 inches deep. The measure is approx. 2 1/4 inches long and the external diameter is approx. 1/2 inch. The body of the flask is approx. 6 inches long. Please refer to photos for full perspective.
