Model Train Lovers
Take a look at this nice, Postwar, Lionel 6456, "red" Hopper Car. The model 6456 was first introduced in 1948 and produced through 1955. The original box this car comes with has the number 6456-55 on the inside flap, indicating that it was likely part of the 1954 set No 1479WS. These were very popular sets and saw a lot of use, finding examples as nice as this one is becoming more difficult.
Appropriate for use on 0- or 027-gauge track, this car is very clean for its age. Other than accumulated dust, and a few tiny scratches around the top edge, I see no major scratches or paint loss. The brake wheel, and all four steps on the corners of the car are still intact. The trucks are in good condition and the wheels turn freely. Painted lettering and numbers remain clear and easily read. The car comes with its original box, which shows some wear but for its age is in good condition. I have attempted to show condition of both the car and its box in the photos, please refer to those for full perspective.
The car is approx. 9 1/2 inches long from the end of one coupler to the end of the other coupler. It stands approx. 2 3/4 inches tall and is approx. 2 inches wide. The box is approx. 11 inches long, 2 inches wide and 2 1/8 inches tall.
