Native American Small Pipe Bag, Hand Beaded, Hand Stitched, Split Deer Skin
$350.00
Lovers of beautiful Native American Beaded Artwork, take a look at this very nice, small beaded bag.
Based on its construction and wear to the deer skin I believe this was made sometime in the 1920's. It is all hand sewn, and one side is lined on the inside with cotton cloth. It has what feels like a cardboard insert between the cloth and the deer skin down by the bottom to keep the bags shape. The bead work is very skillfully done in colors of sky blue, white, red, black and greasy yellow. The deer skin remains pliant and intact, there is some darkening to the split fringe and top closure appropriate for its age and use.
This is a small bag; it may have been for a stone pipe or a "medicine" bag. It is a beautiful representation of plains nations work.
I see no missing beads and the seams are sound. The drop on the bag is approx. 15 1/2 inches when it is hung on the wall, suspended from the split leather tie attached to the closure flap. The bead work panel is approx. 5 1/2 inches long, 3 1/2 inches across at the base and 2 1/4 inches across at the top. The fringe is approx. 6 inches long. Please review photos for full perspective.
