Navajo, Artist Signed, Red Clay, Deeply Etched Pot

$155.00
This lovely piece is a deeply etched, Navajo Red Clay Pot. Featuring colors of the desert sky, the design work appears to me to be a petroglyph pattern. The entire pot, including the base is etched. I have seen many of these pieces, but never one that carried the artwork pattern through to the base, the piece is signed in the center of the base. I believe the name is Lorento, but I am not 100% positive. The pot stands approx. 4 inches tall, the base is approx. 7 1/4 inches in diameter and the outer diameter of the lip is approx. 3 1/4 inches. The pot is in very good condition, with no visible chips, cracks or repairs. The colors are clear and vibrant. There is some minimal soiling appropriate for age and use. Please carefully review photos for full perspective.

Petroglyphs, or images that are engraved or scoured on rock surfaces were typically used to identify scenes, tell stories, or beautify a wall or work of art. There is canyon called Crow Canyon filled with Navajo petroglyphs in Farmington, New Mexico. Some Navajo potters use interpretive reproductions of these designs in their art work.
