Pie Crimper or Jagger, Brass Forged, Turned Wood Handle, Circa Early 1900's

$40.00
This beautiful old kitchen tool is a hand forged pie crimper/ pastry jagger. Based on style and construction, I date this piece to the early 1900's.

The fork and wheel are both hand forged. The shaft is smoothly polished and turned. The wheel turns solidly and is secure within the forks. If desired this piece could be used. The metal collar that is intended to cover the point of union between the shaft and wooden handle is loose. It could be easily secured should that be desired. I have chosen to leave it in its "as found" condition. The beautifully turned wooden handle could be oak, but I am not sure about that. It has a warm patina built up over time with use. Please refer to photo for full perspective, I have tried to highlight the status of the loose collar and some strike marks on the handle.

The crimper is approx. 6 1/2 inches long. The brass neck, fork and wheel extend approx. 2 5/8 inches from the handle. The wheel itself is approx. 1 inch in diameter. This would be lovely decorative piece in a Farmhouse or Country themed kitchen.
