Pie Crimper or Jagger, Hand Made or Blacksmith Forged, Early 1900's

$45.00
This piece is a wonderful example of a antique wood and brass pie crimper/jagger. The brass wheel is well formed but is slightly loose within the forks. With care it could possibly be used, but my recommendation would be as a country kitchen display piece. The handle is a hand carved piece of hard wood that gleams with the patina of use. The forks are steel and appear to be hand forged. To my eye the wheel is brass and also appears hand made. This is a lovely representation of an American primitive that would have been in farmhouse kitchens across the US. It is hard to date this piece, most likely early 1900's, though it could be slightly older. Please refer to photos for full perspective.

The piece measures approx. 5 inches long, the handle is approx. 2 5/8 inches long and the forks are approx. 2 inches long. The wheel is approx. 1 1/8 inch in diameter, the handle is approx. 1/2 inch in diameter.

This piece was originally a part of the collection of Alan R. Shirkey, Harrisonburg, VA.
