Plains Indian, Stone Headed War Club, Antique, Circa 1880
$150.00
Lovers of Native American History, this is a living piece of history. Circa 1880's this piece is a stone headed war/ceremonial club.
The piece shows signs of advanced age and someone has tried to stabilize the leather wrapping with tape and there is a wire attached which appears to have been used to display the piece. I have not attempted to remove or restore any part of this. I leave that to the choice of the buyer. I am intrigued by the motif's painted on the stone. I know they had significance to who ever painted those and would love to know more about them. This is a heavy piece (the stone is) , it measure 15 1/2 inches in length and the stone head is 8 inches long and approx 3 inches wide. The handle is 13 1/2 inches long and approx 3/4 inches in diameter where it attaches to the stone, tapering to approx 1/2 inch. The handle is wrapped in hide that is covered with a thin wrap that I am not sure is part of the original. Please refer to pictures for better perspective.
I purchased this piece from an estate auction, it is/was from the collection of Carleton Thomas, Philadelphia.
