This this beautiful piece is a original Russian Caucasian silver alloy drinking horn. These pieces were produced in the province of Dagestan in the Caucasian region of the former USSR. This particular piece is from the 1950s. Drinking horns are traditionally filled with wine and often used for ceremonial purposes in many Caucasian cultures. Each natural bovine horn features an ornamental silver alloy cap to both ends which are hand-etched with organic patterning and have an Etruscan chain between the two caps. The horns are stamped and have the maker’s initial, copies of these pieces do not have these stamps.
