Santa Clara Pueblo, Black Ware Pot, Hand Coiled, Hand Polished, Signed by Recognized Artist, Margaret Garcia
$165.00
This lovely olla is hand coiled, hand-polished, and fired outdoors. Based on condition I date this pot to the 1950's time period. The matte on highly polished design is beautifully executed and retains a lovely shine and soft glow. The pot has wear marks to the surface appropriate for age and use as well as a few small chips around the lip, no cracks or repairs are noted. It is signed on the base, Margaret Garcia, Santa Clara Pue. N. Mex. There is a name in paratheses following Margaret, but I cannot make out what it is. Margaret Garcia is known for her black-on-black pottery. She is cited in Gregory Schaaf's book on Pueblo Indian Pottery "750 Artist Biographies".
The pot stands approx. 3 3/4 inches tall; the widest point of the body is approx. 4 1/4 inches across. The lip is approx. 3 inches internal diameter, and the base is approx. 2 inches in diameter. Please review photos for full perspective.
This lovely pot would be a great addition to any collection of Santa Clara Black ware or Pueblo pottery.
