Skookum Doll with Papoose and Original "Bully Good" Label on Left Foot, Circa 1940's,
$160.00
Collectors of Antique/Vintage Skookum Dolls, take a look at this interesting piece.
Based on construction this doll dates from the 1940's. The head is formed from a plastic mask, the boots are painted, glued on paper and the intact label on the foot is consistent with the 1940's time period. The doll is in fairly good condition for its age. The blankets have a moderate amount of soiling with very minor loss to the fabric. Edges of the fabric were turned and stitched preserving the hems over time. As this doll is 80+ years old, I consider the wear see appropriate for its age. I believe the original doll had leggings of soft split leather which are missing. The hair shows wear to the cap area, and it appears one of the braids was cut off at some point in time. The faces of both the mother and papoose are soiled, the paint is intact and there are not chips or cracks to the heads. The doll does not stand on her own and would require a stand for display. This doll remains a nice example of larger dolls from the 1940's time period. Please refer to photos for full perspective.
This is a larger doll, standing approx. 15 1/2 inches tall, approx. 5 inches wide at the widest point of her body and approx. 3 1/2 inches deep at the same spot.
